English Vinglish releases in

90 screens in Germany

After releasing in Hong Kong, Bollywood actor Sridevi’s comeback film is showing in the European country

A dubbed version of Bollywood actor Sridevi’s comeback movie English Vinglishopened in as many as 90 screens in Germany on June 29 (Thursday). BollywoodLifehad first reported that the film will release in Hong Kong in March and then in Germany in May. The movie was highly appreciated in India and some international destinations when it released in 2012.
Produced by Eros International in association with R Balki, the movie marked the directorial debut of Gauri Shinde, who hopes the movie will do well in Germany.
“I am extremely happy that English Vinglish is spreading across continents. In my last visit to Berlin, the response for the film was overwhelming during a festival and now I look forward eagerly to the countrywide response,” Shinde said in a statement.
Its producers too hope that the “global triumph” of the movie continues. “We are confident of opening up further new avenues for exhibition,” said Pranab Kapadia, president (Marketing and Distribution), Eros International.
English Vinglish is the story of a middle-class woman Shashi Godbole, a character essayed by Sridevi, who is skilled at many things except the English language. Her husband and daughter often bully her, but she emerges strong and takes up the challenge of learning the language while on a trip to New York.

Mahima Chaudhry: I want to make a comeback!

Mahima Chaudhry: I want to make

a comeback!

The Pardes actor believes that Bollywood has changed a lot since she made her debut in 1997 and is looking for a good script to return to the industry

Mahima Chaudhry made her acting debut with Subhash Ghai’s 1997 movie Pardes for which she bagged the Filmfare Award for the Best Female Debut. 15 years and 20 films later, Mahima was on a sabbatical of sorts. It’s been five long years since we have seen her on the big screen, but she is now keen to make a comeback as she believes it is a good time to enter Bollywood again. “The industry has changed a lot. Many young directors are making path-breaking movies. Many women-centric scripts are being written. It is heartening to see that more women are playing the leads these days and carrying films entirely on their shoulders,” said Mahima.
BollywoodLife caught up with the 39-year-old at a plush Mumbai hotel. Mahima was on the jury of the 9th Retail Jeweller India Awards. “I think, besides Pardes which was a huge hit of the year (1997), I am proud to have done films like Lajja which gave many a women tremendous courage to fight against the various issues like dowry and women subjugation. I think we need to use movies as a platform to address such issues,” said Mahima.
So is the Pardes beauty planning to make a comeback? “Oh yes, if I come across a good script and an interesting plot I would like to be a part of it. I am looking for an opportunity that will allow me to portray a very hatke character,” she concluded.

Nasha song Tera nasha: Poonam Pandey looks tamed in this melodious number!

Nasha song Tera nasha: Poonam Pandey looks tamed in this melodious number!

Contrary to our expectations, this track from Poonam’s ‘wild’ debut is toned down and tuneful

Tell us honestly, what would you expect from the very first song of Poonam Pandey’s erotic drama, Nasha, given the fact that the babe is always desperate to shed her clothes and indulge in a skin show? Well, killing our naughty expectations in one single stroke, the Tera nasha number is high on melody and extremely low on the wilderness you would crave.
All you see in the song is romance peppered with the rules of seduction as Poonamlures her co-actor Shivam. For a film that has been in the news for its titillating plot and the poster that roars – Nasha…get addicted this Monsoon – the first track has Poonam only kissing and making love in between the sheets, offering very little stimulus to our senses.
Director Amit Saxena has been screaming from the rooftops that his movie is an erotic drama and not porn. And going by this number, we might just believe him. Nasha will hit screens on July 26.

Kumud, Chhanchhan or Amita: Who is the best new female power on TV?

Kumud, Chhanchhan or Amita: Who is

the best new female power on TV?

Television has always had powerful women – some even stronger than the men. And the trend continues with Saraswatichandra’s Kumud, Simran of Kaisa Ye Ishq Hai… Ajab Sa Risk Hai

We saw several new shows begin this year – some reigned with good TRPs while others were pulled off air even before they could find a foothold. While the stories may be run-of-the-mill, it’s the characters that have impressed us. Personalities like Jodha of Jodha Akbar, Chhanchhan from Sony TV’s Chhanchhan, Amita from Amita Ka Amit and Shraddha from Meri Bhabhi have done a marvellous job and left their mark on the minds of the people. And of course, the credit goes to actors like Paridhi Sharma, Sanaya Irani, Chandni Bhagwanani and Kanchi Kaul who portray these characters. Kudos ladies!

Why did Gauri and Shahrukh Khan visit the doctor?

Why did Gauri and Shahrukh Khan visit

the doctor?

The actor’s hour-long visit to a South Mumbai clinic turned out to be a harmless eye appointment

Shahrukh Khan, who generated a raging controversy after news got out that the superstar allegedly determined the sex of his surrogate baby, almost fell into another as the press spotted him visiting yet another clinic. However, after a bit of prodding, they got to know that it was just a routine eye check-up!
What started the speculation was SRK’s visit to a clinic in South Mumbai along with wifeGauri Khan. The actor visited the well-known ophthalmologist Dr Banaji on Wednesday for almost an hour. Apparently, SRK was suffering from a burning sensation in the eye which usually happens as people age and sought medical attention for the condition.
After a troubled shoulder, it’s the eye that’s bothering the Baadshah. Get well soon, SRK!
