John Abraham now tries action, Korean style

John Abraham now tries action, Korean style

Post the success of Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala, John Abraham is looking to do more action films. The actor is slated to star alongside Abhishek Bachchan in Gupta’s next, which also revolves around a shootout. And now we’ve come to know that he is set to do a desi adaptation of 2010

To be produced by the actor’s production house, JA Entertainment, and Azure Entertainment, the yet-untitled film will hit the floors in September or October.

“The makers have bought the rights officially but it can’t be called a remake. The storyline has been altered to suit Indian audiences,” says an industry insider.

What’s also interesting is that the film will see John teaming up with director Nishikant Kamat, who he has worked with in Force (2011). “It’s an out-and-out thriller and John is extremely excited. Right now, Kamat and a team of writers are wrapping up the script at Ramoji Rao studios (in Hyderabad),” adds the insider.

Other details, such as the title and the leading lady, will be worked upon once Kamat comes back from Hyderabad. “Both John and Kamat have a superb working relationship. Plus, the actor is also happy to team up with Azure Entertainment because they give the director-actor team complete freedom to execute their creative decisions,” adds the insider.

Will the 'PC' factor haunt Shahrukh, Shahid at IIFA?

Will the 'PC' factor haunt Shahrukh, Shahid
at IIFA?

What's really common between superstars Shahrukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor? Yes, the answer is certainly not a surprise, and it's none other than Priyanka Chopra, who was supposed to be the common love interest for both the men. Reportedly, the IIFA 2013, that will held at The Venetian Macao, will be co-hosted by SRK and Shahid. Now that the two men will share the same stage, we hope everything goes well, and the 'PC' doesn't much bother each other. The World knows about Priyanka and Shahid's love-hate relationship. It is said that the duo started dating each other on the sets of the film Kaminey. But, the alleged couple never admitted their affair and constantly played hide-and-seek with cupid. In fact, reports also said that the duo came close to each other, after they became neigbours. Then, came the day when the duo supposedly called off their affair, courtesy Shahrukh Khan. There were strong rumours suggesting that Priyanka's growing proximity with Shahrukh, made Shahid quite uncomfortable. After their apparent split, it is said that Shahid was quite miffed with PC, and then unfollowed her on Twitter. In a bizarre situation, Kapoor also went on to do the same with SRK on Twitter, which clearly suggested that Shahid was possibly somewhere hurt with PC's growing friendship with Khan.

Will Deepika Padukone’s ‘bakwaas dictionary’ dialogue become iconic?

Will Deepika Padukone’s ‘bakwaas dictionary’ dialogue become iconic?

Dips hopes that her funny lines in Chennai Express are loved by the audience

Deepika Padukone, who plays Meena Lochini in Chennai Express, is seen mouthing some genuinely funny dialogues in a slightly unrealistic but hilarious South Indian accent. At a press conference held to launch the film’s trailer, somebody asked Dips if her dialogues would become as iconic as Hema Malini’s ‘chal dhanno’ from Sholay. And the actor said that she hopes the audience laps it up, especially the one where she tellsShahrukh Khan – Kahaan se khareedi aisi bakwaas dictionary?
“There is a particular way in which I speak in the film, which we have maintained throughout. Some genuinely sound hilarious. We have cracked up a lot while shooting too. If it becomes iconic, then great!” said Deepika. Dips, we are sure it will be your most famous line since “ek chutki sindhoor ki keemat tum kya jaano Ramesh babu” in your debut flick Om Shanti Om!

Qubool Hai: Will Tanveer blame Asad for her pregnancy?

Qubool Hai: Will Tanveer blame Asad

for her pregnancy?

Tanveer’s baby bump will soon become visible. We wonder what new convoluted explanations the conniving lady will come up with…

Zee TV’s Qubool Hai is crossing all logical limits with its melodrama quotient. And our constant complaints don’t seem to have any effect on the makers. So the current scenario is that Tanveer (Amrapali Gupta) has visited her doctor, who has warned her that her baby bump will soon become visible.
Worried, Tanu has already started planning her next big move. We believe, she will claim that the baby is Asad’s (Karan Singh Grover) ‘coz of what transpired between them. While logically, it would be impossible, but we are sure the makers will find a way.
We had hopes that once Zoya (Surbhi Jyoti) cools down and comes back home, she will see sense and dig deeper into Asad’s unconscious one night stand. However, if Tanveer announces her pregnancy, it will push Asad and Zoya’s reunion further away. Now we wouldn’t want that to happen, right?

John Abraham to make a film on Rocky?

John Abraham to make a film on Rocky?

The actor-producer expresses his desire to make a film based on boxing and plans to rope in world champions

It would be unfair to label John Abraham as a fitness enthusiast. The actor deserves to be called a fitness freak, and we mean that in a good way, considering the guy has built himself up like a tank! After successfully establishing himself as an action hero, John now wants to further his image as a promoter of sports such as boxing by making a movie around it.
Recently, as John collaborated with the celebrated heavyweight boxing champion David Haye and launched their flagship fitness-cum-boxing center, he also expressed his wish to make a movie around the sport. “I grew up on Rocky series and that’s why I went to the gym too. I would like to get a credible film where boxing is taken seriously. I want people to see my film and say that’s a first timer in India,” said John. And what’s more, after turning producer with a quirky film like Vicky Donor, John has gathered the wits and the guts to go ahead with a different sort of venture. “With the kind of films that are being accepted today, I feel, with the capacity of a producer and an actor, someone like David would be far more accepted when he comes onscreen and shows boxing in a (different) light,” said Johnny boy.

Anand Gandhi to work with Kiran Rao on her next project

Anand Gandhi to work with Kiran Rao

on her next project

Ship of Theseus director Anand Gandhi will work with Kiran Rao again

Bollywood director Anand Gandhi, whose film Ship OF Theseus will be presented by Kiran Rao, says that he might work with the filmmaker again. “We are talking about it enthusiastically. We enjoy working with each other and discussing ideas. In the past couple of months we have become good friends. I am happy that she is making her film, I am very excited about giving her ideas which would be useful,” he said.
Talking about the genre of their next film, Gandhi said that he is waiting for Rao to make the formal announcement. ”There is something which Kiran has in mind…it is better if we wait for her to announce it, whenever she does,” he said. In the meantime, Gandhi is also excited about his another film “Tumbaad” which is a period drama. ”There is another film which we just finished called ‘Tumbaad’. It is in the final stages of production. It should be ready by the end of this year. it is a dark period fantasy,” he said.

Sushant Singh Rajput is a dormant volcano, says Dibakar Banerjee!

Sushant Singh Rajput is a dormant volcano, says Dibakar Banerjee!

And their movie Detective Byomkesh Bakshy will release on December 12, 2014

Sushant Singh Rajput will be playing a just-out-of-college guy in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy in which he destroys some of the most evil and sinister forces purely through his wit. But what made director Dibakar Banerjee opt for someone like Sushant who’s so quiet and usually in his own world in real life? Doesn’t the role require a person who’s intellectually aggressive and has the ‘I can crack any case’ kinda aura about him?
“Sushant Singh Rajput has that dormant volcano thing about him that is just right for my Byomkesh. He looks so quiet, so self-absorbed and withdrawn – till you challenge him. Then he explodes and becomes the most dangerous man in the world – at least for the criminals,” says Banerjee. Well, what can we say, can’t wait to see Rajput step into the shoes of the famous super sleuth.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6

The Rab Se Sohna Isshq actor gets eliminated from the dance reality show

Her performances were weak in the beginning of the show and though she was able to impress the judges with her performance last week, actress Ekta Kaul got eliminated from the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6 Saturday. The actress, who is known for her role as Sahiba in Rab Se Sohna Isshq, got good comments from the judges for her performance in the ‘Family Special’ round, which she dedicated to her sister, but due to lack of votes she was in the bottom three contestants with her choreographer Tushar Kalia.
Followed by the elimination of actor-comedian Suresh Menon, former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth and actress Meghna Malik, Ekta was the fourth celebrity contestant to get eliminated from the show. The other two contestants who were in the bottom three with Ekta were actors Siddharth Shukla and Aarti Chabaria. This week saw some great performances by the contestants using some props that were assigned to them.
While the episode saw filmmaker Karan Johar grooving to the beats of Radha from Student Of The Year, even actress Madhuri Dixit and choreographer Remo D’Souza danced on Pyaar ki yeh kahani from the film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. There was also a change in the choreographer alignment for actress Shweta Tiwari. Shweta was first seen with choreographer Sushant Pujari. Sushant cannot be a part of the show due to an injury. Luv U Soniyo song Tumsa nahi hai koi: A run-of-the-mill romantic number!

Luv U Soniyo song Tumsa nahi hai koi:

A run-of-the-mill romantic number!

Tanuj Virwani tries to impress his soniyo aka Neha Hinge in this mediocre track

The new song, Tumsa nahi hai koi from Luv U Soniyo, set in college campus, is like any ordinary love song of the ‘90s.
Luv U Soniyo, which is the debut vehicle of yesteryear actor Rati Agnihotri’s son Tanuj Virwani, looks just like a normal, run-of-the-mill college flick. And Tumsa nahi hai koi is a lighthearted but mediocre track, sung by KK (Krishnakumar Kunnath) and Anwesha. The track has been composed by Vipin Patwa and penned by DR Sagar. It will be played during the introduction of the young lead pair as Tanuj tries to woo his lady love Neha Hinge. We aren’t impressed with this one. Take a look and tell us if you are…

Isaaq is Manish Tiwary’s unique twist to Romeo and Juliet

Isaaq is Manish Tiwary’s unique twist to Romeo and Juliet

The director tries to give a Shakespearean twist to a desi tale

Issaq is director Manish Tiwary’s version of Shakespeare’s tragic drama Romeo And Juliet and he says he wanted to give it a unique twist thus he thought about having more antagonists to oppose the two lovers in his film. “One of the initial twists to my film was to attempt something, which I can give a unique angle to. This happened at the scripting level. We started adapting that angle on love,” Tiwary said in an interview.
In IssaqPrateik and Amyra Dastur play the two tragic lovers, but the entire focus is not just on them. ”To make it novel, you have to start from the basics – how you treat the meaning of love and the treatment of the surrounding cast. We realised that the film needed more antagonists to oppose the love, which the lovers have,” he said. The filmmaker has set this tragic love story in Benaras, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and has valid reasons for doing so.
“You cannot make Romeo and Juliet in a contemporary context in Europe anymore… where the feudal system has been destroyed, but if I go to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, it still exists. We found this in Benaras. You keep finding a context where your story can be set in a youthful character,” said the director who earlier made Dil Dosti Etc and is currently scripting his gangster movieMohabbat Miyan.
Talking about the cast, Tiwary said: “Prateik drew my attention from his first film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Dhobi Ghat‘ I approached him and then I had to wait for a couple of films, which he had signed, to complete. He has a presence on screen,” he said. ”Amyra was a long search. When I saw Amyra, a Parsi girl, she was still in school and could not speak Hindi properly, but there was something about her. It was more of a director’s instinct. She had this head-strong character, which Bachi (the character) needed,” he said.
The audience approval and critic ratings are equally important for Tiwary. ”One cannot forget that we are in a medium seen by all. Like many others and most of the directors, I also look for an audience, which likes my film. I don’t see a divide here – critics are a part of the film’s audience… one hopes that critics and audiences like the film. I will be happy if it is seen widely and discussed,” he said.

Pooja Bhatt almost gets arrested!

Pooja Bhatt almost gets arrested!

The Jism 2 director had to rush to the court after being warned by the judge that she could be arrested

At times, our B-town folks have such interesting real life stories to tell that we wonder why don’t they turn the camera on themselves for a bit and cull out a real story and make it into a movie. And director Pooja Bhatt could have become one such funny character, except for the fact that in reality she could have ended up behind bars!
Recently, a case filed in 2005 was being heard where a St Xavier’s college professor Pratibha Nathani had filed a complaint against Pooja as she found the posters of her film Rog starring Irrfan Khan offensive.
Everything was going well, and Pooja’s lawyers even informed the judge that the director was travelling which is why wasn’t able to attend the hearing. However, it seems Pooja’s lawyers were a bit careless while talking to the judge and their callousness while in handling his questions had the court fuming and the judge ordered Pooja to be in court, else he would issue an arrest warrant! Funnily enough, her lawyer didn’t know that Pooja was already in town as she rushed to the court, all apologies. “I have always been present in court when called. I was supposed to travel to London for a month, but the visit has been postponed. In fact, I had informed the court earlier, but that judge has been transferred,” said Pooja who then made her lawyers file a submission saying they weren’t aware of her being in Mumbai!
For now, it seems Pooja’s ordeal is over, but we hope she chooses her lawyers carefully the next time around. We’re sure she isn’t that eager to give her Sadak co-star Sanjay Duttcompany behind bars!

Richa Chadda to play Charles Sobhraj’s girlfriend in Pooja Bhatt’s Bad

The Gangs Of Wasseypur babe will play the serial killer’s Indian love interest

Pooja Bhatt is gearing up for her next venture based on Charles Sobhraj. She, along with director Prawaal Raman (Darna Mana Hai fame), had finalised Randeep Hooda to play the serial killer. Titled Bad, the central idea of the film will revolve around how Sobhraj aka Hooda managed to escape from Tihar Jail in 1986.
It’s learnt that Raman has already bought the rights from the investigating officer Amod Kant, who worked on the real life case. And as per another recent development, Pooja has roped in Richa Chadda to play Mira – Sobhraj’s love interest while he was in India. The makers have signed character actor Adil Hussain (English Vinglish fame) to essay Amod Kant. Pooja Bhatt’s crime thriller is expected to go on floors next month. DID Super Moms give hope to mothers, says Marzi Pestonji

DID Super Moms give hope to mothers,

says Marzi Pestonji

Dance reality show Dance India Dance Super Moms is a beacon of hope for mothers, who wish to pursue their “unfinished” passion for dance, says choreographer Marzi Pestonji, who is a judge on the show

After a rigorous selection process, 16 finalists have been shortlisted for the show from across the country. The contestants have now been divided in a group of four, and they will be coached by four popular former Dance India Dance contestants – Raghav Crockroaz Juyal, Prince Gupta, Siddhesh Pai and Jai Kumar Nair.
“It’s a fabulous concept and it has given a lot of hope to the mothers. The show has given them a chance to finish their unfinished business,” said Marzi. “I was shocked to see what they can do, from contemporary to aerials and fire acts, they have really shown their versatility,” he added.
Anita Routela from Ghaziabad, as well as Manupriya Bhandari and Juliana from Delhi were three finalists from the show, who accompanied Marzi to address the media at a press conference. Anita, who has a four-year-old daughter, said her in-laws were against her love for dance. But thanks to her husband’s support, she was able to pursue her dream and landed in Dance India Dance Super Moms, which is also judged by Farah Khan and Terence Lewis.
Juliana, who is a dance teacher, says she participated in the show because of support of her friends and dance guru. Even Manupriya’s family fully supported her to participate in the competition. They were united in saying that women with some or the other talent must come out and pursue their passion.
The show airs on Zee TV and also features Bollywood’s disco dancer Mithun Chakraborty in the role of Grand Master.

Sunny Leone: I’m not ashamed of my past!

Sunny Leone: I’m not ashamed of my past!

The pornstar-turned-Bollywood actor says B-town has been very accepting of her and moving to India has been the easiest thing to do

As a top-rated pornstar in the US, Sunny Leone had perhaps never imagined she could have “moved” to Bollywood as “easily” as she did. But she is glad that the industry is “accepting” her while she tries to “fully crack the code”. Excerpts from the interview
A lot has happened to your career in Bollywood since we last spoke. How do you feel about the changes in your life and career?
This has been the most amazing transition that I could hope for. Being accepted and liked in another country is not something that happens all the time.
How accepting has Bollywood been of you? Do you feel completely at home here?
Bollywood has been very accepting. I know there are people out there who don’t like me but there are more people liking me, so it doesn’t bother me. I am very lucky that when I entered Bollywood, I was coming with a fan-following already. And the Bigg Boss 5 show helped everyone else get to know me as a person. Moving to India from Hollywood was one of the easiest moves I have ever made. Effortless really.
How much of the Indian film industry have you so far come to terms with?
I’m not sure I fully understand this question. But I grew up in a typical Punjabi home and watched Hindi movies during my childhood. I understand Hindi and Punjabi and the Indian film industry is like every entertainment industry across the world. It all functions the same just in a different language. I have moved my whole world here and love this industry of Bollywood.
Do you feel it’s hard for an outsider like you to crack the Bollywood code?
I work very hard and around the clock trying my hardest to learn everything that Bollywood is. I’m not even sure if I have fully cracked the ‘code’, but I’ve begun the process hopefully. It all depends on how my second, third and fourth movie do. In all reality, I have only made one movie that has been released to the world. It all depends on how the world accepts me in those movies to come.
Your next project is Ekta Kapoor’s Ragini MMS 2? How comfortable are you in the horror genre?
Honestly, I loved working on Ragini MMS 2. There is a lot of performance in this movie and a huge range of emotions and, of course, horror. I don’t mind the idea of not looking pretty in every shot. To me, this is my way of getting out of who I am and becoming someone completely different for the day.
Are you now a full-on Mumbai girl? Have your husband and you settled down in Mumbai?
I feel very comfortable living here and it’s been the easiest move for he and I. We’re very much settled and know the ins and out of Mumbai. I think the day I felt totally comfortable was when I started giving my driver directions.
Have you left your days as an adult star behind? How do you look back on that experience?
If it wasn’t for my past, I would not be who I am. I am not ashamed of it because it has brought me here to India. If I came here as a regular me with no entertainment experience, then I would not be as popular as I am today with the public.
How do you react to a director like Anees Bazmee saying he wouldn’t want to work with you as he has a family audience to consider?
I have no idea what this is all about. But I am very lucky that there are plenty of people that want to work with me.
Is it true your husband Daniel Weber is also seeking a career in Bollywood?
My husband is entertaining several opportunities and for information you’ll have to ask him.

Mumbai Film Festival gets new branding

Mumbai Film Festival gets new branding

The 15th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival will sport a new icon

The Mumbai Film Festival (MFF), organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), will have a new logo from at the fest’s 15th edition. The MFF, also called as the MAMI film fest, is held every year in the hub of Bollywood. It has become the favourite of movie buffs and industry professionals alike. The new visual branding is to represent a ‘strong association with the most important centre of the Indian film industry’ – that is Mumbai.
The new MFF icon is an interpretation of the Gateway of India, revealed Shyam Benegal, filmmaker and Chairman, MAMI. He said, “This year, we have an exciting new logo that incorporates both the city of Mumbai and the iconic Gateway of India.”
The logo is also a ‘carefully crafted homage to Mumbai’s art deco era of talkies’, a statement said.
What’s more, the branding also gets colourful from this year onwards, rather than sticking to just one hue. Each colour will represent a category at the festival. The logo also denotes the Golden Gateway Award, which is the Best Film award.
Srinivasan Narayanan, Festival Director, said, “The festival has evolved into one of the most important film festivals in this part of the world, showcasing the best cinema from all over the globe. The new logo stands for the dynamic and fluid integration of the iconic with progress and evolution.”
The 15th Mumbai Film Festival will be held from October 17-24, 2013.

Madhuri Dixit says no to gaalis!

Madhuri Dixit says no to gaalis!

The Dhak dhak beauty steers clear of expletives in Dedh Ishqiya

Those who have seen Abhishek Chaubey’s Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi starrer Ishqiya will know what they can expect from the director’s next,Dedh Ishqiya. The 2010 hit was known for its liberal use of cuss words. Vidya was seen giving gaalis absolutely unabashedly. But now Madhuri Dixit who is playing the central character in the second edition has shown her reservation for using offensive language.
A secret birdie, who is keeping a close watch on the way Dedh Ishqiya is shaping up, has chirped to us that since Mads expressed her concern over spouting cuss words, the director has decided to make a few changes in the script. Madhuri is portraying a royal begum in the movie so her character did not quite demand her to utter gaalis.
Now if Ms Nene will not be seen using those spicy words, will Naseer and Arshad be unleashing some really fiery lines peppered with gaali-galoch. And will this be reason enough for the censor board to keep a close watch on this production?

Kavita was replaced by Chitrashi Rawat of Chak De! India fame. The show took a 20-year leap and Chitrashi played Jwalamukhi Chautala, daughter of Chandramukhi Chautala.
