Is Sushant Singh Rajput the right choice to play Byomkesh Bakshi?

It seems the Kai Po Che actor will be playing the lead role in Dibakar Banerjee’s next which is an adaptation of Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s fictional series, Byomkesh Bakshi

Sushant Singh Rajput will be playing the role of Byomkesh Bakshi in Dibakar Banerjee’s next film titled Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. It seems the director plans to partner with Yash Raj Films for this project which will go on floors next year. If you remember there was a TV show based on the detective in 1993 and Rajit Kapoor played the super sleuth. And that show was definitely one of the best we had.

The movie, we hear, set in the ‘40s, will highlight Byomkesh’s college life and what made him take the route of solving complicated cases. Our only gripe, will the film will be able to do justice to the show and the classic literature series? Wethinks someone who looks a tad more intense and intellectual would have been ideal for the role. For instance, Abhay Deol would have been a decent choice. We can imagine him looking like an absolute Bong babu moshai in a traditional dhoti kurta, just the way Rajit Kapoor was a detective par excellence …
