Sunny Deol gets legal notice from Viacom 18 for not returning Ghayal 2 signing amount
The production house has sent a legal notice to the Yamla Pagla Deewana actor for not returning the signing amount they paid to him for Ghayal 2
It’s been two years since the Ghayal sequel was announced. In fact, the teaser of the 1990 revenge drama was aired during the screening of Salman Khan’s Ready in 2010. But the Sunny Deol starrer failed to gain momentum and has faced multiple roadblocks, with stories of several directors helming the project surfacing time and again.
From what we hear, Tigmanshu Dhulia was roped in to direct Ghayal 2 considering his growing popularity after Paan Singh Tomar. But Dhulia was later replaced by Ashwini Chaudhary (Jodi Breakers fame) and then Sunny paaji’s old friend Rahul Rawail was also considered. If a tabloid report is to be believed, the makers have now roped in thedhai kilo ka haath actor’s favourite director, Rajkumar Santoshi to helm the project.
We are told that even veteran writer Piyush Mishra who was working on the screenplay and dialogue has opted out of the project. All this uncertainty fuelled rumours that the sequel has been put on the backburner. And this volatility and improbability regarding the film’s fate has made the producers Viacom 18 back out from the project as they didn’t want to delay it any longer. And if a popular trade weekly report is to be believed, Viacom 18 has slapped a legal notice on Sunny to give them back the signing amount.
Our khabroo says, “After the average performance of Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, producers Viacom 18 don’t wish to take any further risk and invest in films featuring Sunny Deol.” When we tried to verify the story, both Viacom 18 and Sunny Deol’s official spokesperson remained unavailable for comment.
