Will '500 crore' Strong UTV Hit A Six With Ghanchakkar?

Will '500 crore' Strong UTV Hit A Six With Ghanchakkar?

With the release of Ghanchakkar, UTV may end up with a record that would be enviable to say the least. If the Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer ends up being a success, UTV would have as many as six hits to its name and that too in just the first half of the year.
"Starting with Race 2, UTV has seen back to back successes like ABCD - Any Body Can DanceKai Po Che!Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Iron Man 3 already. These have been a mix of films that have ranged from solo productions, co-productions or distribution. Now with Ghanchakkar being their own production again and giving some positive vibes, there are good hopes of UTV ensuring six successes in a matter of six months. That would be phenomenon," says an industry source.
In fact the only (though major) downer for UTV has been the biggie Himmatwala while their ultra-small product Gippi didn't create much ripples. However, this has been compensated in a major way by the kind of moolah that their five films so far have managed to earn.
"Between Race 2 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, there is as good as 450 crores that has come in and that too just from India. If one adds 'Himmatwala' and Gippi then the sum total turns out to be a cool 500 crores. That is a fantabulous number and cannot be debated," the source adds.
With Ghanchakkar expected to bring in more moolah and Chennai Express and Satyagraha as two of the immediate biggies coming from UTV, it could well turn out to be one eventual year for the UTV.
